Back to mySmart 25 years
Since 2001

Back where
we started.

Energy management was part of mySmart's original offering back in 2001. It spent 25 years as the quiet counterpart to our lighting control story - and it's now buildIQ, an AI-driven platform built for power, water, and the compliance regulations every new building has to meet.

Energy management isn't a new idea for mySmart - it's actually where we started. In 2001, alongside our very first lighting control work, energy management was part of our original core offering. It just took 25 years, and a couple of name changes, to come back around to the centre.

For most of that time it was the quieter counterpart to the lighting control story - running for years as mySmart EnGauge, especially in facilities like aged care with a genuine need for it, but an add-on rather than a headline. buildIQ, our current platform, has since retired EnGauge and taken its place: energy management back where it started, just built for 2026 instead of 2002.

The EMS story

Built for what's coming, not just what's here.

2001
Energy management from day one
As CTI Australia gets going, energy management sits alongside lighting control as part of the original core offering - not an afterthought bolted on later, but part of the plan from the start.
2002
"Power Intelligence"
CTI Energy Management gets its first real branding - aimed at organisations of every size looking to reduce energy usage through innovative, cost-effective methods across existing and new premises.
From our own files, 2002
"Power Intelligence. With today's increasing energy costs, CTI Energy Management can help your organisation big or small, reduce your energy usage. CTI Energy Management is achieved using innovative and cost effective methods for both existing and new premises. Our existing clientele and installations range from government and larger corporations through to small and medium business all with the same environmental and financial motivating factors."
2010
mySmart EnGauge arrives
Still trading as CTI, the energy management offering is rebranded mySmart EnGauge - a platform for the secure capture, storage, analysis and reporting of energy data across a site.
2012-2017
A name that said both things
The company trades briefly as mySmartCTI - a name chosen because of EnGauge and lighting control together, the two halves of the business the name was actually trying to capture.
2017 onward
Lighting control takes the spotlight
As mySmart, the public focus shifts to lighting control - but EnGauge doesn't go away. It keeps running quietly in the background for years, especially in sectors with a specific ongoing need for it, like aged care.
Along the way
HammondCare, Strathearn House
HammondCare - one of Australia's leading providers of palliative, rehabilitation, aged and dementia care, established in 1932 and now running 21+ sites nationally - approached mySmart to unify the independent, standalone systems across its facilities (air conditioning, lighting, metering, back-up generators) that had relied on manual metering of fridges, freezers and water. At Strathearn House in Scone, NSW, mySmart EnGauge captured and analysed refrigeration, active power, solar and generator data on Microsoft Azure, with Microsoft Power BI for dashboarding - triggering automated load shedding when consumption got too high, and email alerts if fridges or freezers drifted outside their set temperature zones.

From inside the team
"25 years is a long stint in any business. It is certainly a proud moment in the mySmart business at its celebrates this great milestone. In the spirit of always striving for improvement, last year we released our EMS (Energy Management System) for power and water, a major step forward to define the same level of excellent customers and partners have come to expect with the new regulations to deliver EMS to all newly built projects. Engaging AI in our development has led to a highly customised, fast release system that is built, managed and supervised using AI principles and tools. It really is a step in the direction of the next 25 years."

Last year
buildIQ goes live
mySmart releases buildIQ, an AI-driven Energy Management System covering power and water in one platform - retiring mySmart EnGauge in the process. The timing isn't a coincidence: the National Construction Code's J8 (2019) and J9D3 (2022) provisions now mandate time-of-use energy metering on newly built projects, and a single interface to make that data usable, not just collected.

The first project
Tallawong Public School
Tallawong Public School in Rouse Hill, NSW, is already one of mySmart's flagship builds - a 5 Star Green Star result delivered in 2020 with electrical consultant JHA and contractor PRO Electrical Services. It's also buildIQ's first project: the same site, a newer job, and the clearest sign yet of where energy management is headed next.

Today
Full circle
Two utilities, one platform, and energy management back where it started in 2001 - except this time it's the headline, not the counterpart, and it's built with 25 years of building-services experience behind it.

Measured today.
Built for tomorrow.

25 years after it started, energy management is buildIQ - an AI-driven platform for power and water, built for what the National Construction Code now requires.
